Meaningful Topics I Learned in CISB11
This class was really helpful to me. I learned things that I had not known about computers and some of the history. All the things that had to be done to input data and write programs back in the early days of computing were amazing. We have come along way since then but I feel that some things will be more useful than others. Building this website is very useful, one day I want to have a business and being able to build one and do what I want to it will be good. I found out what a makes a network and the different types. I learned how to better protect my computer from harmful viruses and intruders. Last thing that I learned was the basic hard drive and how it works.
Building a website is useful to anyone who wants to put themselves on the internet, or a company. I would like to start a company one day and being able to save some money by building a small starter website will be helpful. I will be able to run it and start it from scratch and if something goes wrong I can only blame myself. Later one when the business starts to boom I will be able to afford someone who can make a more elaborate one, but I will be able to understand the lingo and capabilities of website design.
Networks are everywhere and knowing what they are and what makes a network is a good tool. If I want to make a network I know what I will do and how to try and put it together. Everything is going wireless now so being able to set up a wireless network is essential, knowing what equipment to use and tools to get it done. In the business I want to start having a network will help ease some of the work that has to be done. Backing data to servers, file sharing, and printing will all play roles that will be on the network.
How many times do we hear from a friend, “I have a virus on my computer?” I think we all have and it is important to know how to avoid these problems. I found out through this class that there will always be ways to get bad things on your computer; one just has to discipline themselves on what they view on the internet. Being aware of software that helps protect you from these horrid trouble makers is also important like anti-virus protection, firewalls, spam-ware, spy-ware, all these help you fight and keep your computer running smoothly.
Hard drives are the equipment that houses our data. Knowing where this evolved from and what the use to be was interesting. They have come along way and knowing how they work is cool. I kind of got an idea of what to look for when I go out and buy a computer or an external hard drive. All of these tools that I have learned will help me in the future when I start my own business.
