RAM according to Wikipedia is a form of computer data storage. The random means that it can be stored in any order and when the data is needed can be returned in a constant time as opposed to hard drives. They are considered volatile because of you lose power you lose your work.

How stuff works describes it as the best known form of computer memory. RAM can be accessed by any memory cell directly, unlike SAM (serial access memory) it stores data in a series ordered sequentially like a cassette tape. Ram can be accessed in any order. The cell is like a bucket that holds water a full bucket or anything above 50% is 1 and anything below is a 0. The bucket it has a leak so it has to be refreshed or else it forgets what it has and this happens in nanoseconds.

RAM is where the operating system, application programs, and data in current use are kept so they can be accessed quickly. It only operates while the system is on, if its not or you lose power you lose whatever you where operating if you didn’t save it on a hard drive or dvd etc. This happens because RAM is volatile and hard drives are not. RAM can be compared to ones short term memory because it focuses on the work at hand.

I would buy the creative sound blaster sound card. It is a medium priced product that has some good features that will work well with what I used my computer for. I have a laptop and that sound card is made for laptops as well. I read some of the reviews on it and they were good so I think for me the sound blaster X-Fi notebook would be the best buy.
